The first International Festival of Photography PhotoVisa took place in Krasnodar in 2008. Today, PhotoVisa is the largest regional festival of photography held in Russia, which won recognition from the Russian and global photography community.

The Festival is organized by the IRIS Art Foundation, the ROSIZO State Museum and Exhibition Center of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, In Support of Photography in Russia Project, and the Artistic Union VivaPhoto, regional public organization of Krasnodar.
PhotoVisa is held under the auspices of the Administration of Krasnodar Region and the Government of the City of Krasnodar.
In 2014, the Festival took place for the seventh time. 38 exhibitions of artists from 38 countries were presented to the public. They were held in 19 venues in Krasnodar, Novorossiysk, Anapa, and Sochi—in museums, galleries, exhibition halls, and public spaces. The Festival featured 12 lectures, 3 film and multimedia show nights, a workshop for young authors, and an international portfolio review with leading figures on the Russian and world photography scene as experts.
The International Festival of Photography PhotoVisa actively collaborates with governmental institutions, mass media, private cultural initiatives, and corporate sponsors. PhotoVisa is a member of the international association of photography festivals Festival of Light and partner of international cultural projects including FotoFest Biennial (Houston, USA) and Encuentros Abiertos—Festival de la Luz (Argentina), the Australian Center for Photography, the University of Arts in Poznan (Poland), etc.
Today, the Festival is one of the most significant cultural and educational events in the South of Russia, which made the Krasnodar Region one of the national centers of photography life.
